Every breakfast, lunch and dinner,
you were there.
Every crumbly, messy snack,
you were there.
-
You were there to entertain my children
when I couldn't.
(You always made the best fort.)
You were there when we colored and painted.
When my sweet four year old
sounded out his first word,
You were there.
-
So, this is my tribute to you,
dear, sweet, card table.
We will never forget the last year,
that you stood sturdy for us.
-
So, today
we retire you,
with only three chairs.
Sorry.
-
Thank you card table
for bringing us together each night.
-
P.S.
Sorry there is only three chairs
to your party instead of four.
Sorry for the crumbs and gunk
stuck in the cracks that refused to come out,
no matter how much digging and elbow grease I used.
Sorry for the art my child left you on
your underside.
Oh, and the fork puncture
and the big tear.
