Mennear Visit and a Broken Arm

At the end of September Grandma and Grandpa Mennear took a road trip and we are so thankful that Dallas was one of their stops, even if it was a couple thousand miles out of their way!

For the most part we just enjoyed their company and good food! But there were some "first" for everyone.

Coda experienced his first fly away helicopter. Dad and Grandma failed to read the instructions, especially the part that said "only fly indoors". They went out into the front yard and Coda pushed the remote and the helicopter took flight. It went up, and up then caught a slight breeze and we never saw it again. Even thought Dad chased it down the street, then tried to track it down in his truck without any luck. It was both hilarious and sat at the same time.

Grandma and Grandpa Mennear enjoyed their first Rangers game. And we all enjoyed our first Boomstick, a 24 inch, all beef frank!

Gracie also experienced her first broken bone. Curse those monkey bars!

The kids were at the park with Grandma and Grandpa when she feel. Surprisingly, she went back to playing before she realized it was hurting her. It took one look to realize it was definetly broken.

We spent a few hours at the ER, but the staff there was so nice. They put Gracie asleep so the doctor could set the bone, but Gracie kept waking up. The doctor did the best she could, but wasn't able to get it right. A few days later, Gracie went back to the hospital where they could put her completely under. She was such a trooper and tried so hard to be brave. The nurses even pulled some strings to let Dad walk her to the operating room until she fell asleep.

She had two cast during the six weeks, but I think the worst part was how it affect her emotionally. She missed a week of school and when she returned she really suffered from anxiety. Her teacher was concerned enough to contact me on a few different occasions and she wasn't the only one that noticed the difference in Gracie. She was in tears about everything, all the time. Countless times I sat in the school parking lot trying to convince her to go to school. It was rough on everyone. But, I'm happy to report that days after the second cast came off we all saw a difference, my funny, witty, always happy little girl was returning! We are so grateful for her and how brave she was during this trial.

We are also grateful for our wonderful families. The parents and grandparents that sacrifice time and money to come visit us. We couldn't have asked for better families!
