One night last week, we were hit hard with rain. The next morning I expected the nest outside Gracie's window to be washed away. I was surprised to see not only had it survived, but so had the two eggs. Since then, we've checked every day on the nest and every time the mama mourning dove is nestled in tight. Sometimes when you walk out she will peek her head over the top of the fence, but she didn't scare easily (not that I was trying, because I think it is fascinating to experience nature so close.) Well, today Coda accidentally hit the fence with the ball and the dove took flight. The kids were excited to find two baby doves in the nest. We took a quick picture then left so that the mama could return. We're so excited to watch these babies. I hope they stay safe!
