We knew there was a storm on the way...the weather guy interrupted Apprentice and I missed who got voted of...but we didn't worry because it was on the other side of DFW. At about 2:10 a.m., the wind and rain woke me and then the power went off. I woke Justin up to have him set his phone so he wouldn't be late for work. I then peeked out the window, but the wind and rain was so bad I couldn't see the road (maybe 25 feet away). I turned to Justin and said, "do you think we're alright?" when he did't say anything I knew he was just as uneasy about the situation as I was. Luckily, the storm woke the kids earlier in the night and they were already on our floor. Justin and I grabbed the iPhones and started searching the National Weather Service, by now the wind and rain was crazy! We finally got logged onto the website at 2:30, only to read that a tornado passed by us at 2:15!
By 2:45 everything was calm. We were still without power at 5:30. Out of four flashlights, only two had working batteries. I had only two candles that was used for decoration, this is one of them. We have 72 hour kits, which I know needs to be updated. Perhaps it's time to better prepare my household for disaster.
Here's what NBC had to say about the one tornado that what close by. It was one of three confirmed thus far.
"The third confirmed EF-1 tornado touched down in Kaufman County on the north side of Forney. The swath was about 100 yards wide with a length of 400-500 yards. The damage from the tornado was nested in straight-line wind damage." -nbcdfw.com
There was a tree that was blown over at Coda's school and the gas station we drive by daily had it's large sign blown over. These are the damages near us. Other places had windows broken, roofs ripped off, a side of a hotel came off and a few semi trucks blown over.
Justin and I made sure to thank the Lord for watching over us this night.
UPDATE: I just came back from Coda's karate class. On the road to the free way, near the gas station, there is a long line of trees knocked down. It looks like some trees were blocking the road early this morning. There were men still cutting trees out of the way at 5:30 this afternoon. The gas station sign actually fell on a semi and above the cab it was damaged. Across the free way from the gas station a semi trailer was still tipped over.
I am pretty sure I just saw where this small tornado made its path, but small or not, it was too close for comfort!

Echo! I'm glad you guys are okay. You are one brave lady! Love ya!
Oh my word! I am glad you and your little family are okay. It makes it WAY TOO REAL when you are there and see the damage!! Good thing you are one of the lucky ones that knows you can pray to a loving Heavenly Father....those poor people around you that don't know that!
Glad that you are safe. It's always a good reminder to have flashlights and 72 hour kits ready and available!
