We are doing pretty good at doing Family Home Evening every week. Of course, we had to switch it from Monday's to Thursday's, but at least it is getting done. This week I decided to start on the Easter story. In the April 2011 Friend, pg 24, are pictures depicting the week before the resurrection of our Savior. I think I am going to cut the pictures out and hide them in Easter eggs around the yard. Then I am going to give Coda and Gracie a couple of empty eggs and ask them to go out side and find something that has new life, (leaves, grass, seeds, flowers, etc.) and put it in their egg. Before we open their eggs of "new life" they will need to go find the hidden eggs. Once we have all nine of the hidden eggs we will open the first eight and talk about the last week of the Savior's life. Then before I get to the last egg we will look at their "new life" eggs and talk about them. And talk about how things once dead can live again. Then we will open the last hidden egg and talk about the sacrifice of our Savior so that we might live again. If the kids are still focused, we will talk about how we are made whole after our resurrection. There are a few kids in school, church and tee ball that are sick or have lost a limb. I know my children have seen them, because I often have to remind them not to stare. So, I want to talk about how these children will be made whole and be able to run and jump and look just like any other healthy child.
I know I still have another FHE before Easter, so this week I wanted to talk about the Savior, and next week watch a video about Easter. In my search for a video I found this powerful and moving Mormon Message, His Sacred Name: An Easter Declaration. It brought tears to my eyes and gave me chills. Enjoy!
