At Last A Celebration

To say the least, Justin and I had some making up to do for Coda's spoiled birthday. So, this morning we decided to brave the icy roads and get out of the house. First stop, library (mostly for mom, but I think everyone else enjoyed it to.) The kids played on the computers and then got some books and a movie. Mom got the book she had been craving all week, and Dad checked out some Texas landscaping and gardening books (which knowledge we are both in great need of.)

We also hit McDonald's. All week when ever Coda would "request" something this is how he would say it. "Can we go to McDonald's? Anyways, it's my birthday." The word "anyways" was used instead of "since". And he milked that for everything it was worth all week long!

After the Happy Meals we headed over to Bowl-A-Rama. We had never been there but had some coupons for one free game and $5 worth of arcade tokens. As we walked in the door Justin said, "I'm just telling you, it's going to be expensive." Well, I already knew that. Bowling is always expensive even with coupons!

So, I walked up to the counter and the man began to tell us the different rates for hourly, game, or all day bowl. I showed the man our coupon which was for one free game for one person. I said, "we have one of these." His response, "it only looks like you have one but you have a lot more." Hmm...not sure what that means but on to the shoe rentals which said $3.89 per person. "$8.00" the man says. (okay quick math: 3.89x4 is well over $8 and what about the charge for the games??) When I asked him he said "Do you want to pay more?" HECK NO! I told him thanks and grabbed the shoes and ran before he changed his mind.

Later we had another coupon for $5 worth of arcade. I took it to the same man to redeem and he said "what, more freebies?" I told him I would pay for two $5 arcade cards if he could use the free one. When he handed them to me I pulled out my debit card and he just said "thanks have a good day!" WHAT??

Somehow we got four people bowling with four shoe rentals, $10 in arcade credits and a pitcher of root beer all for $12!! I told Justin "there is no charge for awesomeness or attractiveness" but as funny as I thought it was, he didn't get it. (Its from Kung Fu Panda for anyone who doesn't know, but really...how could you not know that line?)

Anyway, back to bowling. I think the Coda was still trying to recover from the week. It took him about seven frames to realize bowling was meant to be fun. He started to like it there at the end.

We then came home and let him open his presents and blow out his candles...finally! We are only a few days late. He requested an ice cream cake, but something about it turned him off and he refused to eat it. Justin's response "more for me".

I promised Coda that next year we would make it all up to him. Maybe even have a party (he was pretty sad that mom didn't decorate "like last year.") Don't worry, Coda has let me know all week long how terrible I am and what a terrible birthday this was. But that's what happens when you get the flu and a major snow storm hits on your birthday. But he seemed to forget about that as he was helping with his new transformer motorcycle and police legos.

Happy Birthday Coda!
(I'll do better next year)
