Cover to Cover

Usually it is used as a simple end table decoration. Sometimes it is used as something to catch the moisture from your dripping cup. Other times it allows me to only dust around it, because I know it hasn't been moved for weeks therefore there could be no dust underneath it. But this month, it moved. It moved from the end table, to the bedroom, to the breakfast table, and I am not ashamed to admit, it even made it to the back of the toilet a few times. This month I read from cover to cover the volume 40 number 8, a.k.a. August 2010 Ensign. I think that wrinkled up pages and a missing cover is a good sign, for a magazine filled with inspiring words and direction. The pen wasn't always with the magazine, but here are a few things that struck me as I was reading.
. . .
"Brethren, let's treat our wives with dignity and with respect. They're our eternal companions. Sisters, honor your husbands. They need to hear a good word. They need a friendly smile. They need a warm expression of true love."
(Becoming United Parents, by Mark T. Hales, pg 19)
-
After 20 minutes of Daddyland, I finally get a little word with Justin when he comes home. Most of the time it is to complain about my day, never mind his. I should probably work on giving a "good word" and working on my smile I little bit.
. . .
"Alma taught that as a part of the Atonement, Christ voluntarily experienced our pains, sicknesses, and infirmities so 'that he [might] know according to the flesh how to succor his people' (Alma 7:12)."
(Those Who Are Different, by Elder Marlin K Jensen, pg 46)
-
I have read this over and over again, but it wasn't until I read this article that it really stuck. Our savior suffered all so that he would have an understanding not only of what we went through, but more importantly how to comfort us.
. . .
"The prize is not won by running fast bu by moving forward in wisdom."
(All Things in Wisdom and Order, by Elder John C. Taggart, pg 55)
-
I just loved this article. Duty, Persistence, Capacity, Balance and Priority. All things to focus on.
. . .
"When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on."
(Tie a Knot and Hang On, by Karen Paul, pg 80)

These are so good, thanks Echo. Our subscription just expired and we didn't get August. I need to renew it before next month's comes out.

Loved those quotes. I actually read that first quote tonight. I too love the Ensign and all the spiritual treasures it has in. Thanks also for having me and the kids come over. I sure enjoy your company and look forward to our pedicure!
