I want you to know how excited Coda was when I picked him up from school yesterday. He had a huge smile on his face! But I must tell you, you guys are running a tight ship over there. I thought it was strange how you made all the parents stand in a line outside. Then one by one you asked them for their child's/children's name/names, and then did a "ten four good buddy" on the walkie-talkie, and a few minutes later out came your child/children. In 104 degree weather, most parents were not very happy about standing in the sun for twenty minutes while the school found their child, but it sounded like this was very rare and only happened on this occasion because the threat of a lightening storm. I thought it was great how one teacher was out their with her lightening detecter and how you kept my child in doors where it was safe. But I was very shocked at all the mega-phone yelling that was going on in the parking lot, the volume was ear piercing!
I asked Coda about his day on the way home. He said he couldn't remember, but after a little prying I did get some information out. He said he liked recess. He played mostly on the swings and on the slide. Coda also said that he made some new friends, but couldn't remember their names. I was a little confused when I asked him about lunch. I sent him with fifty cents to buy milk for his lunch that I packed. He said, "my teacher took my money but didn't give me any milk." I thought it was strange for a teacher to be pocketing milk money, but then I noticed the online lunch account had a measly fifty cents there. You probably thought I was crazy sending him only fifty cents to deposit in his lunch account. I guess things are different then when I went to school and you just handed your fifty cents to the scary lady in a hair net for your milk. I told Coda that if he wanted milk he would have to stand in line with the other children to get milk, obviously he didn't know that, but he knows now. Luckily, I packed him a Capri Sun, just in case he was like me and was too scared to find out how to buy milk.
Ms. Peaches, Coda said that during groups, his group had to sit at the table while the other kids played. At first I was very angry, my thoughts were "how dare she not let him play", and then I remember, you must have had a valid reason for not letting him and two others play. I asked, or grilled rather, the reason why. Coda told me that you said they were not playing with the plastic bears the right way, and therefore at to sit with their heads on the table the "whole time". After much digging, Coda finally said that him and the two others were "bowling the bears", but then the other two started throwing the bears at one another and so you asked all three of them to sit out for that round of groups. Good for you for making an example out of the situation, and I am coping with the idea that Coda had to be part of that example. Hopefully, all the others in your class know they are no longer allowed to "bowl" or throw the plastic bears, I am just sorry Coda had something to do with it.
Lastly, Coda brought home a great drawing of the school and below it he had written A-S. I was extremely proud. I asked him if Ms. Peaches had asked him to write the ABC's. And with a disappointed face he said, "Well, the teacher told me to draw a picture and write a story. But I can't write a story because I couldn't spell any words. But all the other kids can write stories and spell words." I of course, do not believe that everyone in the class is at a second grade level, but I could be wrong. Besides, and this is my proud mommy side coming out, Coda CAN spell some words. And he is getting better at sounding words out. So, if you wouldn't mind, would you point out to Coda that he did just fine and that not all the kids can write stories.
Thanks for all you do,
Coda's Mom
P.S. I am very sorry that Coda can not pronounce your name correctly and that it comes out sounding like a strange type of farm animal, but we do practice your name at home. Hopefully he will get it right in the next few weeks.
Before Pics
I little hesitant to even smile, but I don't blame him.

So cute! I love your letter! It makes me a little nervous about sending my little Rhett to kindergarten next week! AH!!
I love that you are journaling so much with letters. How fun! I'm sure that you and Coda will adjust to all of the fun that comes with school.
